Banko (Ash), June 17, GNA - Nana Kwabena Kwarteng Sefah I, chief of Banko in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region, has advocated a multi-faceted approach to addressing sanitation-related challenges in the country.
“The job at hand demands the involvement of all given the fact that Ghana achieved less than fifty (50) per cent of its overall sanitation targets under the Millennium Development Goals,” he said.
Nana Kwarteng Sefah, who was addressing students, staff and management of the Bankoman Senior High School (SHS) at Banko, said it was unfortunate that environmental management and sanitation continued to be a challenge for the majority of decentralized assemblies.
This was at the inauguration of a 16-seater place of convenience constructed for the school by Odubek Farms Limited, dealers in poultry and livestock.
The project was facilitated by Daakyehene DBA Foundation, a community-based organization (CBO), with the aim of ending open defecation amongst students of the school.
Nana Kwarteng Sefah pointed out that it was incumbent on the assemblies to join forces with stakeholders in creating awareness on the need to stop open defecation in all its forms.
“We cannot call ourselves a developing country when we have made it our habit to attend to nature’s call anywhere and also dump refuse anyhow” the chief lamented.
Mr. Dominic Boakye Ansah, President of the Foundation, assured that his organization had made it an agenda to champion the cause for clean sanitation.
“We are appealing to corporate organizations, philanthropists and donor agencies to be supportive of our cause to promoting the health of the citizenry,” he stated.
Mr. Frimpong Adomako, Headmaster of Bankoman SHS, commended the philanthropists for the gesture.
