Accra, June 20, GNA - Ghana’s Beach Volleyball team exhibited a spirited performance to beat arch rivals Nigeria at the first African Beach Games in Sal, Cape Verde.
Ghana’s pair of Kelvin Carboo and Sammy Essilfie won the first set by 22-20 and won the second set by 21-17, to brush aside their opponents by two straight sets.
Ghana would next game play against Central Africa.
Moro Mumuni, coach of the team, was happy with the performance and hopeful the players would improve in their next game.
Mr. Paul Atchoe, President of the Ghana Volleyball Association (GVA), described the victory over Nigeria, as a befitting birthday gift for him, on Thursday, June 20.
Mr. Atchoe who doubles as the Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Chef du Mission for the next Olympic Games in Japan, said the team was capable of winning a medal, if they were motivated.
He called on corporate Ghana to support sports as there were many talents, that must not be left untapped.
