Bomso (Ash), Nov. 6, GNA - Local communities have been admonished to develop action plans that will help to guide local government actors, especially Assembly Members in the implementation of development projects in their respective communities.
Such action plans from community members, would also help to gauge the success or otherwise of Assembly Members and thus elicit from them, the needed accountability and transparency to be able to earn the trust of the people.
Mr Isaac Appiah, a former Assembly Man for the Ahwerewa-Bomso-Feyiase Electoral Area in the Sekyere East District of Ashanti, who is seeking re-election, gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Bomso, a suburb of Kumasi.
He said comprehensive action plans, serving as road maps for development projects in the communities, would deepen citizens’ participation in the local governance structure and procedures, which could help speed up development in the rural communities and make life better for the citizens.
Citing instances to back this, he said, a community with a good action plan would achieve much in terms of social and other sectors of development as compared to the one without any.
“This is because communities guided by action plans, are able to influence the prioritisation of needs of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), NGOs and development partners”, he added.
Mr Appiah said the farming communities making up his electoral area, achieved development projects such as classroom blocks, potable water systems (boreholes), health facilities, among others in the last four years due to workable action plans.
“We commend the Sekyere East Cluster of the World Vision International in Ghana (WVI-G) who have empowered our communities to develop their own action plans and these are really determining the development pace of our communities as well as enhancing communal mutual cooperation”, he noted.
The Aspiring assembly man said the communities already had action plans that facilitated his co-operation with the traditional leaders, opinion leaders and the community members in pursuing a common course for development.
