Sefwi-Essam (WN/R), Nov.8, GNA – The Bia West District Assembly in the Western North Region has called on the youth to take advantage of the Government’s Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme to improve on their lot.
Mr John Koah, the Bia West District Chief Executive (DCE), made the call during the maiden Meet-the-Press series at Sefwi-Essam when he gave accounts of his stewardship for the two and half years in office.
He said he harvested 18 maxi bags of rice due to his involvement in the programme and that since 2018 he had not bought rice, adding; “I eat my own rice.”
The DCE, therefore, urged the youth to take advantage of the PFJ to lead productive lives and become responsible citizens.
On Education, he said the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, provided Bia West with a fully furnished library project.
Mr Koah said under his administration the number of schools covered by the School Feeding programme had increased from 16 in 2016 to 25 in 2019 and expressed the hope that it would increase to 30 in due course.
He said the Assembly also distributed 4,100 free uniforms to basic schools in the area.
In April, this year, President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of a warehouse at Essam, under the One District One Factory programme, while cocoa husks processing and honey production factories are in the offing.
Mr Koah later inaugurated a six-member committee to sensitise the public on the upcoming District Level Elections and Referendum.
Participants at the forum commended the DCE for giving true and practical meaning to the issue of continuity for effective nation building by executing and completing projects started by the previous National Democratic Congress.
They, therefore, urged other government functionaries and appointees to follow Mr Koah’s shining example for the good of Ghana and her people.
“You have really shown that you came to serve the interest of the people but not for partisanship,” remarked one clergyman.
