Kpone, Nov. 14, GNA - Over 250 residents within the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal area in the Greater Accra Region have been affected by the torrential downpour in recent times.
Mr Richard Tsatsu, Municipal NADMO Coordinator for the KAMSBEG Zonal Council of the Kpone –Katamanso Municipal Assembly, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that many communities were affected by the heavy downpour.
He accessed that the situation could have been minimized if residents had not encroached on some water ways.
According to him communities such as Bediako, Golf City, part of Community 25 and Kpone Barrier were the most affected.
Mr Tsatsu further explained that some of the communities affected were mostly people residing at low laying area saying others have also built on water ways, hence the reason for the flood .
The KAMSBEG Zonal Council NADMO Coordinator hinted that, the Municipal NADMO Directorate have made a request to the Regional and National NADMO directorates to release some relief items to be distributed to the affected communities.
In a related development, Mr Daniel Acquah, Officer in-charge of NADMO for the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, also told the GNA at Tema that Ashaiman was not spared by the flood.
Mr Acquah stated that a team of NADMO officials were on the field to access the situation in the various affected communities.
He mentioned New Komeleteh (Labanon) New Estate, Roman Down and part of Community 22 as areas mostly affected.
Mr Acquach said the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly have seven zonal councils and officers have been deployed to such communities to help protect lives and properties.
He said no casualties were record and advised residents to avoid building on the water ways.
