Bongo (U/E), Nov. 28, GNA – Flood victims in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region have expressed gratitude to ActionAid Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), for supporting them with food and non-food items.
The victims, who gathered at the forecourt of the Bongo District Assembly, received mattresses, buckets, mini bags of rice, cooking oil, sanitary pads, blankets, sachet water, and ‘shito’ among other things.
Madam Stella Mba, a flood victim, after receiving her items, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the items would help improve her living conditions.
“The items I have received will help improve my living conditions, I lost virtually all my property as a result of the flood. ActionAid has done well and I thank the members for the support.”
Another victim, Mr Samuel Azure, said he was thankful to the NGO for remembering the victims in their difficult times.
“Even though the items cannot completely replace what we have lost in the disaster, it will cushion us a bit while we work to build our houses.”
The initiative was under ActionAid Ghana’s 45-day humanitarian response project in the Upper East Region, to assist survivors of the October flood disaster, which led to several loss of lives.
Mr Alhassan Sulemana, the Upper East Regional Manager of ActionAid Ghana, said about 333 flood victims in the District would receive the items.
He said the distribution would be done across districts adding that 367 households were served in the Builsa South District, 333 in Builsa North, while 250 and 210 victims were served in the Kassana-Nankana West and Kassana-Nankana municipalities respectively.
Mr Sulemana said the team would later move to the Talensi, Nabdam, Binduri, Bawku, Pusiga and Tempane districts of the Region to continue with the distribution.
