Takoradi, Nov 29, GNA - Mr. Emmanuel Narh, Western Regional Director of Driver and Vehicle License Authority (DVLA), has called on members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the region to adopt defensive driving techniques to curb motor accidents especially during the yuletide season.
Mr. Nah made the call during the launch of "Free Defensive Training and Christmas campaign", organized by the National Road Safety Commission to educate drivers on road safety and prevention of motors accidents on the roads.
He attributed most road accidents to careless driving, over speeding, wrongful overtaking, drunk driving, non-observance of traffic rules and regulations,, and urged drivers to adopt defensive driving methods at all times to prevent accidents.
The Regional Director who spoke on the theme, "Stop road accidents before it stops you" asked drivers particularly commercial drivers to always endeavour to observe all road traffic regulations and also maintain their vehicles.
Mr. Jonathan Tandoh, Western Regional Chairman of the GPRTU advised drivers not to engage in wrongful overtaking, over speeding, avoid loading passengers and goods along the shoulders of road and in front of fuel stations.
He also advised vehicle owners not to give their vehicles to unprofessional drivers, as this would go a long way to help stem motor accidents on the roads.
