Accra, Nov 29, GNA - The Hotel, Catering and Tourism Training Institute (HOTCATT) an agency under the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture (MOTAC), has stated that it was set to officially start enrollment for January 2020.
The Institute said it was ready to enrol interested persons into for the next year to build their capacities in tourism and hospitality.
HOTCATT was established in 1991 by Government to train personnel deliver services for the Non-Aligned Movement Conference held in 1991.
Given the emphasis placed on the tourism sector as a drive for socio-economic and environmental development, the Government decided to maintain the institute to train a pool of personnel to work in the tourism and hotel industry.
After the conference, the Government sought equipment, books resource persons, etc. from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) to train lower and middle-level students in hotel, catering and tourism services.
HOTCATT in a statement to the Ghana News Agency said whilst the focus on admission was junior and senior high school leavers, graduates from tertiary institutions had also been trained in the fields of food production, housekeeping, food, and beverage services, tour guiding, tour operation, and front desk services.
The statement signed by Madam Petrina Etu-Mantey Parkins, Director of HOTCATT, said the institute’s mandate was to provide skills at the basic, intermediary and supervisory levels to upgrade competences of personnel in the hotel, catering and tourism sector.
It is aimed to help transform Ghana into a competitive tourism destination.
It said the hospitality and tourism industry was huge and holds a wide range of job opportunities for a promising career. “A certificate in Hospitality Management would open doors to an exciting career with tremendous opportunities in numerous areas with a very promising salary range.”
“Our courses are designed for school leavers (minimum Junior High School (JHS) Certificate, industry workers, people who want to change careers, among others.”
The courses available include; Front Office Skills, Housekeeping Skills, Food and Beverage Skills, Kitchen Skills, Tour Guiding Skills, Tour Operations, French, Event Organization, First Aid, Professional Courses, Customized Courses, and is for duration of six months.
