Anomabo (C/R), Dec. 06, GNA - The Central Regional branch of the Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Council (GNCFC), has kicked against a group calling itself Interim Management Committee(IMC) and representing the region on the national Council.
According to the Regional Council, the IMC members said to be representing the Regional GNCFC were not elected by the region and therefore had no regional backing.
Addressing a News conference on Tuesday, at Anomabo in the Mfantseman Municipality, Nana Kwame Yah Ababio III, the elected Secretary of the Regional Council warned members of the purported IMC to discontinue their illegal engagements in the name of the Council or face the law.
"It has come to the notice of the Regional Council that certain unscrupulous individuals are moving from one radio station to the other calling themselves IMC of the Central Region Canoe Fishermen Council", he stated.
Explaining further, the new Secretary to the Regional Council said the Association held its elections under the supervision of the Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday, October 19 and legally elected six people with Nana Obrenu Dabum as the Chairman to manage the Council’s affairs.
The others were; Nana Asamoah Entsei, Vice Chairman, Nana Senaman, Treasurer, Nana Mesiansah, Financial Secretary and Nana Kojo Kwansah, Organizer.
"We are therefore, cautioning these individuals to desist from this dangerous path. We are hereby informing all fisher folks within the region to see the said group as illegal and fraudulent team and should not engage them in any discourse."
"The Central Regional executives, members of the Council and fisher folks at large are warning those so-called IMC members who were not elected by the region to disengage from all activities in the name of the region. They should not present themselves or perform any activities within the region and any of the 44 landing beaches across the region”.
