Accra, Dec 6, GNA - The Signal Training School of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has commissioned its newly constructed Parade Square at the school’s premises in Accra.
The Parade Square, which took four months to be completed has given the school a major face-lift.
Major General William Omane Agyekum, Commandant of the Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS) commissioning the square, said the renovation of the square became imperative in an attempt to provide a well tarred Parade Square for the School and also to improve on the professional outlook and military bearing of students.
“Those of us who are familiar with the old square will bear witness that, the renovation of the square was long overdue. It is my hope that this square will be maintained to ensure its longevity,” he said.
Lieutenant Colonel Peter Abban, Commanding Officer of the School said, the square would be used for the Unit’s master parades, drills and as well as a place, where work for the day would commence and close.
“I wish to express our deepest appreciation to Kantanka Group of Companies for providing all chippings used for the project; Platinum Seal for providing over 9,000 litres of Bitumen and personnel; ACP for providing 260 pieces of curbs and 20 pieces of concrete slabs and FACOL Limited for providing heavy duty equipment and personnel for the ground work,” he said.
He said there were still some outstanding projects to be undertaken by the School and would need sponsors to construct them.
“Key among the projects include; the renovation and re-roofing of the Administration Block, Construction of the main entrance gate to the School and a Technical/Electronics laboratory,” he added.
In a related development, 48 students were graduated from the School at a short ceremony after completing an 18-week course in Signal BIII-BII and Signal Basic Courses 1/2019.
Major General Omane Agyekum urged the newly graduated Signalers to abide by the tenets of oath and resist the temptation to misuse any privileged information that they might have the opportunity to handle.
