Tamale (NR) Dec 9, GNA - The Seventh-Day Adventist (S.D.A) Church, North Ghana Mission has organised Retirement Service for Pastor and Mrs Seth Agyei-Mensah of the Church at the Hospital Road, S.D.A Church, Tamale.
Pastor Seth Agyei-Mensah has worked for more than 15 years for the Mission as Executive Secretary, Ministerial Secretary, Stewardship Director, Tamale SDA Hospital Chaplain, District Pastor in some parts of Upper East, Upper West, Northern Region and Oti Regions.
He also worked at the Adventist Senior High School (SHS) Tamale as Acting Headmaster, Assistant Lecturer at Valley View University (VVU) Tamale, Headmaster and Local Manager of Yendi Junior High School (JHS) among others.
He was born on 29th December, 1954, married with nine children and 16 grandchildren.
He was Baptised in September 1992 and the spouse was also Baptised in 1997.
He was ordained as a Pastor in December 2008 and retired in December 2019 (this year).
Pastor Dickson Sarfo Marfo, Union Treasurer who delivered the sermon from Mark 14:3-9 indicated that, while He (Jesus) was at Bethany in the house of Simon the Leper, as he was reclining at table, a woman (Marycame with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, and poured it over his (Jesus) head.
Pastor Dickson Sarfo said there were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that”. He said “for this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor”. And they scolder her (Mary).
He said gifts given to the Pastor Seth Agyei-Mensah signified what he did throughout his work in the Mission as a reward to him and the family.
Pastor Dickson said to work in the Northern part of Ghana was not easy as compared to the South to work for 15 years as a Pastor, in the North, where they work in deprived areas.
He thanked the members of the Church and non-Adventist for showing appreciation by donating willingly in cash and kind to the Pastor and family as he finally leaves them.
He said he had known Pastor Seth Agyei-Mensah for so many years, as a hardworking Pastor, wherever he was posted to work adding that he served the Mission with great cooperation with other Pastors and had love for all Church members and community members.
Pastor Godfred Kwesi Ataburo, the President of North Ghana Mission of S.D.A Church in presenting the profile of the retiree indicated that he is a Ghanaian and his late father was Mr. James Yaw Mensah and Late mother Mrs Elizabeth Abena Manu both from Amoaman, Nsuta-Ashanti Region.
He completed Middle school in 1968, had GCE ‘O’ an ‘A’ Level in 1976 and 1978 respectively, Certificate in Local Governance in 1989 and B.A Religion/History Minor 2004 at VVU, Oyibi and had public work experience in various fields and carried out Ministerial Assignment and established Churches through campaigns.
Pastor Ataburo announced that all benefits due Pastors Adjei-Mensah would be given to him by the Mission without delay.
For his part, Pastor Agyei-Mensah said he is grateful for the Retirement Service and thanked God for taking him through the Ministerial work and now retiring.
He said wherever he worked there was cooperation, unity and love from members with encouragement from his wife.
He said as he was retiring one of his children Mr. Jude Agyei Asamoah was trained to become a Pastor with the Church.
Hundreds of people made up of; Pastors of the Church, lay persons of the Church, Church Members, friends, relatives, soldiers and family members attended the retirement service with gifts in cash and kind.
