Sekondi, Dec. 12, GNA - The Western Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Redeemer Vincent Dedjoe, has advised the public to be wary of robbers and avoid acts that might attract social miscreants.
He, therefore, called for proper handling of resources and personal belongings, particularly bulk cash, which was a key factor in attracting robbers.
DCOP Dedjoe said this during the launch of this year's Christmas safety plan for the Region.
He said about 500 officers had been deployed to maintain law and order during the Christmas festivities in the Tarkwa, Bogoso and Asankrangua areas with 200 officers for the Sekondi-Takoardi Metropolis alone.
DCOP Dedjoe emphasised that the public, especially cocoa farmers, who wanted to carry bulk cash must inform the police for escort, adding; "Don’t keep too much money at the depots to attract robbers".
He maintained that the police was poised to ensuring law and order in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis adding; “It is within our mandate to protect life and property".
The Regional Commander stressed that security was a shared responsibility and advised the public to assist the security agencies to keep the peace and protect lives and property while providing the needed information to the command.
“We are peace officers. Be bold and tell us your problems, especially about law enforcement. We are on top of the job,” DCOP Dedjoe said.
He advised officers from the MTTU to ensure sanity between drivers and other road users
“We have been deployed during the Christmas to check crime and not to create fear among the people. Don’t go there and create problems for the systems.” DCOP Dedjoe cautioned.
He gave the emergency numbers for the Region as 0299208149 and 0299206349 and the National one as 18555.
