Hohoe (V/R), Dec. 17, GNA - The 2019 District Level Elections (DLE), to elect Assembly and Unit Committee members for Electoral Areas in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region took off smoothly in Hohoe.
As at 0620 hours, a visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the Holy Rosary, E.P JHS A and B, A.M.E Zion A and B and the State Housing Corporation A, B and C centres saw officials from the Electoral Commission setting and sorting out electoral materials.
Mr. W. D. Drai, the Collation Officer in charge of the Ahado Electoral Area told the GNA that all polling centres within the area took delivery of all materials adding that he expected a smooth voting process.
Mr. Bernard Esiaku, a 76 year-old pensioner who was spotted by GNA at the Holy Rosary Centre said he and his brother came to the Centre at about 0430 hours to enable them vote early.
GNA also visited the Adabraka M.A JHS A and B, St. Francis Demonstration Primary School A and B, St. Francis Demonstration JHS A and B, Alasuna A, B and C, Fodome Kordzeto and Fodome Helu centers.
A total of 747 voters are expected to cast their ballots at the Alasuna A, 905 at Alasuna B, 602 at Alasuna C and 216 at Fodome Kordzeto Centres.
Mr. Alhassan Isawu Madugu, Presiding Officer at the Alasuna B Centre said as at 0730 hours, nine voters had successfully gone through the process.
Mr. Kwabena Karikari, the Hohoe Municipal Electoral Officer told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that all materials were dispatched to the various polling centres adding that "the process started successfully without any problems."
GNA also observed a calm atmosphere in the Municipality with the presence of security officers at all the centres visited.
Over 270,000 electorate are expected to cast their votes in all the 17 Electoral Areas with about 58 aspirants contesting to become Assembly members whilst about 102 contesting to become Unit Committee members in the Hohoe Municipality.
