Tema, Dec. 17, GNA - District Level Elections (DLC) in the Sakumono Electoral Area is progressing steadily but with a low turn out.
As of 0822 hours, only 80 people, out of the 3615 registered voters had cast their votes in all five centres at Holy Child RC Nursery in Sakumono Estates.
Electoral materials arrived an hour earlier before the start of polls at 0700 hours in all the polling stations.
The ambience, albeit calm at the start of the polls, was characteristic of the conduct of District Level Elections in the middle class voter settlement.
Some of the candidates who showed up to vote appeared very calm and upbeat on their victory at the end of polls.
Security personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces were spotted patrolling the polling stations to ensure a peaceful election.
According to the Municipal Election Officer, Nana Oduro Nimapau, Sakumono was considered a flash point due to election related violence recorded in some parts of that community in the past.
Mr Patrick Mawusi, Deputy Returning officer, Special Duties, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) of his outfit's preparedness for the exercise and said they did not anticipate any challenges.
Madam Alberta Appiah, a woman in her mid-70s, said the lack of development in Sakumono in recent times informed her decision to vote.
Out of the 66 candidates contesting the DLE in Tema West, five are from the Sakumono Electoral Area, with 12 contesting in Sakumono out of 143 Unit Committee Members In Tema West.
