Sagnarigu (N/R), Dec. 17, GNA - The District Level Elections exercise to elect Assembly and Unit Committee Members has started smoothly in Tamale and some surrounding towns.
GNA visited a number of polling stations in the region and observed voters trickling in to cast their ballots.
At Kobilimahagu and Jakarayili Electoral Areas in the Sagnarigu Municipality, voting was going on smoothly.
Mr Zakaria Mohammed, Presiding Officer for Jakarayili Saqafat Islamic A, in the Jakarayili Electoral area, said the voting started at 0700 hours and the process so far was peaceful and the turn out was also encouraging.
He said two candidates (both men) including; an incumbent assembly member were vying for the Assembly Member position and six people for the Unit Committee Member position (four males and two females) and added that 467 people are expected to cast their ballots.
Mr Raymond Kabio, the Presiding Officer for the Sobriya E/A Primary A in the Kobilimahagu Electoral area, said the process was peaceful and calm.
He said two candidates (both males) also including; an incumbent Assembly member, were vying for the Assembly Member position and about 927 people are expected to cast their votes
GNA also visited the Ward 'K' A and B, and Kalpohin SHS, Bagabaga Primary A and B, and Bagabaga JHS A and B Polling Stations in the Sagnarigu Municipality where voting was progressing smoothly.
Other areas visited included; Garichefong and Nakoigu Electoral Areas in the Gushegu Municipality, where voters were trickling in to cast their ballots.
