Accra, Dec. 17, GNA - Mr Steve Anoff Amoaning-Yankson, the immediate past President, Ghana Institution of Engineers will deliver the keynote address at the Eighth National Development Forum, slated for Thursday, December 19, at the British Council in Accra.
A statement signed by Mrs Akosua D. Ntim Sekyere, Public Relations Officer of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the forum, which is being organised by the Commission would focus on the theme, “Sustainable Management of
Ghana’s Sanitation”.
It said Ghana’s poor state of sanitation had been an issue of grave concern, placing the country as one of the lowest ranked among lower middle-income countries.
It stated that although, over the years, various government policies and interventions had sought to stem the precarious condition, there had been little or no improvement.
It noted that the achievement of Ghana’s long-term development vision of a solidly developed nation, at 100 years would be in jeopardy if sanitation was not greatly enhanced.
It said the Sustainable Development Goal and 2030 Agenda target of 6.2 gives a shorter time horizon for completely transforming sanitation, stating that “by 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations”.
"To this end, the Eighth National Development Forum seeks to assemble the views of public officials and experts, private citizens and the general public, on how to address the relentless sanitation problem and ensure that the state of sanitation is in correspondence with Ghana’s development trajectory," it said.
The statement said the keynote address would be followed with a moderated panel discussion, an open forum and questions and answers session.
