Ekumfi Immuna (C/R), Dec 17, GNA - The district assembly and unit committee elections could not be held at Ekumfi-Immuna in the Ekumfi District of the Central Region, following the decision by the chiefs and people, not to take part in any elections until the bad road leading to the place is fixed.
The Central Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs. Philomena Adusei, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), that no election equipment and materials were sent there because the Commission did not want see any nasty confrontation.
The EC acted on the advice of the security agencies in the district.
There are 26 electoral areas in the Ekumfi District and Immuna is just one of them.
The inability to conduct the district level elections (DLEs) in the community, means that the people in the area would not have anybody representing them in the assembly and they would also not have a unit committee.
Barely, 24 hours to the voting day, the chiefs and people, reportedly invoked powerful deities in the area to strike dead anybody, who would attempt to conduct the elections in the community or betray the community by participating in the exercise.
They say they are tired and angry with the political elite over unfulfilled campaign promises.
Voting over the years has not brought any progress – socio-economic transformation to the area.
They have vowed to have nothing doing with the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
