Accra, Dec. 17, GNA - The District Assembly and Unit Committee elections are on-going smoothly within the Ashaiman Constituency with voters casting their votes at a convenient pace.
Mr John Panyin Acquah, the Presiding Officer at the St Luke Catholic Church Centre of the Emaohia Electoral Area, told the Ghana News Agency’s District and Unit Committee Election Monitoring Team that the polling station has been divided into two centres; A and B.
He said: “We are expecting 764 and 723 voters to cast their ballots respectively for the two centres however as at 0945 hours only 17 and four voters had voted”.
He said the Assembly seat was being contested by Mr Prince Mohammed, the incumbent, and Mr Frank Teye.
Mr Frank Teye, on his part, said he was hopeful to take over the seat to do a better job for the people.
He said he would attend to some of their challenges, which included construction of drainages, sanitation, security and interventions for traders within the area.
The Unit Committee position is also being contested for by six people out of which five would be elected. They are Juliana Danquah, Ametame Atsu Francis, Derick Edem, Kumador, Quansah Alan Joe, Sampson Yaw Huseini and Adu Larbi Raymond.
Also at the Nii Komieteh Electoral Area within Ashaiman Lebanon Zone 4&5, Mr Courage Ladzagla, Presiding Officer at the Star Computer Polling Centre A, said as at 0835 hours, only 13 electorates had voted out of 637 on the voters register.
The District Assembly seat is being contested by three candidates: Dickson Amponsah the incumbent, Elder Opoku Micheal and Micheal Freeman Tsekpo.
Eleven people are contesting the unit committee slot. They are Sharlon Tenkorank, Obeng Charles, Baba Alhassan, Azumah Fusena, Irene Owusu-Ansah, Richard Jury Horton, Sewor Wisdom, Rebecca Botchway, Siaw Foster, Ayeebo Richard, and Patrick Hayford.
Policemen were present to ensure law and order.
