Dawhenya, Dec. 17, GNA - Counting is currently underway at various polling centres in the Ningo-Prampram District as voting officially ended at 17:00 hours on Tuesday.
Residents thronged the centres to observe the sorting and counting amidst jeers and cheers as count for each aspirant was announced.
As at 1800 hours, sorting and counting had generally been completed for the assembly members while that of the unit committee continued.
At the Dawhenya Methodist school cluster of polling centres, hundreds of residents, both the young and old shouted with joy as Mr Kutor Moses Nii Pornortey received the highest votes in all the six centres there.
The residents defied the blanket of darkness covering the polling stations as night fell and lingered on the final collation and declaration.
Mr Pornortey, who was at the premises, was surrounded by enthusiastic residents some of whom especially, the women retorted in Dangme that their children would no longer buy books because he promised while campaigning.
"Now that our teacher and PTA chairman has won everything will be free for our children," "the women said in unison.
Officials of the six centres had to rely on their phone torches and rechargeable lamps to sort and count the ballot because there was no lighting system at the centres.
