Cape Coast, Dec 17, GNA - The Centre of Awareness for Global Peace Mission (COA) with its stakeholders will establish peace clubs in schools, societies, churches and in Security Agencies to promote peace at all times.
This is aimed at securing a future, where all and sundry will know that there are existing non-violent mechanisms to resolve conflicts.
It is also to create awareness for people to appreciate the importance of ensuring peace in every corner of the world, particularly in Ghana.
This was made known at a stakeholders meeting to deliberate on its third public lecture to solicit for input for the success of the lecture scheduled for Tuesday, December 19 and to reflect on the development and shortfalls of the COA and devise measures to improve on them.
Professor Samuel Ato Duncan, President of the COA, noted that it was imperative for the World to understand that peace was all that was required for the enjoyment of life and that everyone had the responsibility of ensuring that there was peace in the society.
"COAGM would work closely with the Government to ensure education on peace and would be part of the curriculum to ensure that children are conversant with the need to be peace loving citizens."
He emphasised the need to introduce the younger generation right from the beginning of their education to peace messages to the end of their learning in school to wipe out aggressive behaviour and wrongful perceptions of using violence in solving conflicting issues.
Bishop Peter Kojo Sackey, the National President of the United Nations Association of Ghana said it was vital to establish peace clubs especially in basic schools because it would empower young students and make them understand the need to stay peacefully with one another and inculcate in them the spirit of tolerance and togetherness.
"The common goal of achieving global peace is possible, if Children are taught the value of peace, their young minds need to be prepared to know better before they grow into adults", he said
Bishop Sackey, who doubles as the Director General of United Nation Youth Association of Ghana (UNYAG) again said young minds needed to understand the role of peace in their everyday life and see it as a moral virtue to confidently, pursue what was right as they take up leadership roles in future.
He also said the peace clubs must also be extended to churches to foster unity among leaders, forming partnership in preaching peace because they wield a lot of power on their followers.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Thomas Tindow, the Assin Fosu Divisional Police commander noted that the Security Agencies were already in the peace business and it would continue to ensure that peace prevailed in areas within its reach.
