Enchi (WN/R), December 18, GNA - A lavatory operator who allegedly defrauded a farmer has been granted bail in the sum of 10,000 Ghana cedis, with two sureties of which one must be a civil servant with net salary of 2,000 Ghana cedis by the Enchi District Magistrate court.
Hobber Attaku pleaded not guilty and would re-appear before the court on Monday, January 13, 2020.
Detective Sergeant Joseph Kwadwo Agyare, told the court presided over by Mr Eric Baah Boateng, that the complainant Mr Boakye Alfred is a farmer and a friend of the accused who both reside at Enchi in the Aowin Municipality.
He said in 2017 the accused claimed he left Ghana to Saudi Arabia in search for job.
The prosecution said while there the complainant expressed interest to travel to Qatar, and called on the accused to ascertain whether he could help him.
Mr Agyare said the accused responded in the affirmative and requested from Boakye a sum of 4,000 Ghana cedis to enable him to process the necessary documents so that he could embark on the journey.
Detective Agyare said the complainant started paying the said amount by installments but to the surprise of the complainant, Attaku returned to Ghana in December 2018.
He said the complainant sealed the deal by paying a cash of 2,500 Ghana cedis to the accused person and gave him his documents which included immunization certificate, medical reports, passport photographs and a birth certificate.
Detective Agyare said the accused after collecting the aforementioned, started playing hide and seek with Boakye.
He said the complainant sensing danger decided to leave a message with some people in Dadieso, Enchi and its environs to assist him apprehend the accused.
The Prosecution said the complainant also reported the matter to the Police in Enchi.
He said in November 2019, accused was spotted at Dadieso in the Suaman District and was nabbed to assist in the investigations.
Mr Agyare said during investigations, Attaku admitted the offence but denied receiving cash from the complainant and rather alleged he led the complainant to an agent by name Wahab in Madina in Accra for processing of the complainant’s documents.
