Accra, Dec. 18, GNA - Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) has launched a promotion to champion the use of electronic cards and to discourage the use of cash for payments.
The campaign would reward both existing and new customers who increasingly use their debit cards for transactions.
“For doing the right thing, shopping online via their debit cards we are more than willing as a bank to reward our customers by flying one person all the way to Dubai, in addition to other attractive prizes up for grabs by winners,” the bank said.
Explaining how the campaign will run at a brief launch ceremony in Accra, Mr Bossman Kwapong, Head of Products and Segments Retail Banking at SCB, said “anyone who is a customer of SCB and has the bank’s debit or credit card automatically qualifies to partake in the promotion.
“If you are not our client or you are our client but you don’t have a card what you need to do is to apply for a card which will be delivered in 48hours and you can be part of this promo,” he said.
“Make all your payments with your card instead of paying cash; if you need to shop online, make the payment with your card and you can stand a chance of flying to Dubai with a spending money of $500 on the card.”
The second winner will get the opportunity of owning an IPhone 11 Pro and the third winner gets a two-night stay at “any five-star hotel of your choice.”
During the period of the promo, clients who use their cards for the first time make online payments will receive GH¢10.00 worth of airtime from the bank.
For existing card users, “they must continue using them but they need to do a minimum of 20 transactions within the three months period of the promo to qualify for the grand prize.
“If you are the highest user, then you get to win an experience to Dubai with your partner, where you’ll stay in a world class hotel,” he said.
While clients use the cards for payments, the user receives rewards points, which can be redeemed in hotels and shops across the world.
“When you are on the Dubai trip, you can use your reward points to do many things,” Mr Bossman added.
About 60 per cent of clients who have credit cards prefer paying with cash. The practice is for people to go to the mall, head for the Automated Teller Machine (ATM), withdraw cash and use same to pay for goods and services.
