Accra, Dec. 18, GNA - The Legal Resources Centre (LRC), a human rights non-governmental organisation, has called on the public to make use of its case reporting software to report any instance of a child, who has offended the law for legal assistance/representation.
Mr Robert Tettey Nomo Junior, a Project Officer at the LRC, said the software was available at www.justice4children.app adding it is easy and friendly to use to report such cases to the LRC for legal assistance/representation.
He was speaking at a day’s training workshop for selected personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to build their capacity on the rights of children.
The training was also to enlighten personnel of the GIS, who were drawn from the Greater Accra Region and border control posts, to employ innovative and advanced methods to properly handle children in conflict and contact with the law amongst others.
It forms part of a three-year project dubbed: “Justice for Children: Bridging the Gap between Legislation and Practice”, being implemented by the LRC with funding from the European Union to offer legal assistance and other representation to at least 350 children, who come into conflict with the law.
Mr Nomo Jnr said the case reporting software is relevant in using technology to contribute towards the speedy, effective and timely justice delivery for children.
He said “once someone reports any case of a child in conflict with the law through our computer version, the software will automatically assign a unique code to the reporter to follow to know the status of the case”.
Mr Nomo said the project has lawyers and paralegals across the country, who were available to offer legal assistance to the children, who are in conflict with the law.
He said “cases received are examined by the legal experts at the LRC and those that fall within the purview of the project, a lawyer is available to offer absolutely free legal representation to such children in conflict with the law”.
Mr Nomo Jnr said children in conflict with the law deserved to be reformed to amend their ways, hence the need for all to help those children to become better citizens.
