Accra, Dec. 19, GNA – As part of efforts to strengthen ties between Ghana and its foreign counterparts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has organised a nine lessons and carols night to bring them together.
The programme was graced by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and also attended by Heads of Diplomatic Missions and International Organisations, retired Ambassadors, Members of Parliament and Cabinet and Heads of Government institutions and Agencies.
The programme, which was infused with an African touch and the audience treated to an African choral, was also organised to recognise some distinguished personalities in Ghana’s foreign policy community.
Mrs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, said the country contributed to the decolonisation process across Africa and her Ministry was inspired by her contributions to the nation-building efforts of several African countries.
“It is in this respect that we are strengthened by your firm resolve to drive Ghana’s Africa policy towards a peaceful, more united, prosperous, stronger and self-sustaining continent of African peoples,” she told the President.
She extended appreciation to the President for providing a stand-alone pillar under the Coordinated Programme of Economic and Social Development Policies (2017 - 2024) for Ghana’s role in international affairs.
Mrs Botchwey assured the President that the Ministry has committed itself to actively support his agenda of maintaining a stable, united and safe country.
“We will continue to work to provide an effective external inter-face towards the achievement of the agenda of a Ghana Beyond Aid through Ghana’s diplomatic representation abroad, which comprises 53 diplomatic missions, two permanent missions to the United Nations and 11 consular posts,” she said.
The Ministry, Mrs Botchwey said, welcomes the strong engagement availed them for the implementation of Ghana’s foreign policy goals including the execution of the country’s foreign economic objectives in support of national development.
The Minister also commended the President for his support for the proposals of the Ministry in areas like the extension of Ghana’s diplomatic reach abroad through the opening of new missions and consular posts, improvements in some of the conditions of service of officers abroad, and the modernisation drive of the Ministry to become a globally competitive Foreign Service.
