Accra, Dec. 20, GNA - The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council has called for calm and reflection among political actors as the campaign for 2020 elections gains momentum
"Let us as a nation emerging out of a rancorous period of political disagreements and extreme partisanship allow this love of God permeate every aspect of our national life by demonstrating that spirit of love and reconciliation towards one another, just as God reconciled the world to Himself through Jesus Christ, 'the GPCC said in a Christmas and New Year Message.
According to the Message signed by Reverend Dr Paul Frimpong Manso, President, GCPC, and issued to the Ghana News Agency, "With emerging issues such as the debate on whether we need a new electoral register or not and the recent withdrawal of the Referendum and Election of MMDCE Bills.
We urge all Ghanaians and especially the political parties to exhibit the greatest sense of tolerance in our political discourse, eschewing extreme partisanship and seeking consensus building in all our engagements with the ultimate aim of a peaceful and united Ghana before, during and after the December 2020 General Elections. "
The Council urged the Electoral Commission to seek consensus building and transparency at all times in its deliberation with political parties and other stakeholders on all processes leading to the December 2020 Elections,
'We also call on all stakeholders, especially the Political Parties to be circumspect in the manner they critique the Electoral Commission in order not to compromise their impartiality and constitutionally guaranteed independence, "said.
It is our prayer that all of us will approach our work in the coming year with all diligence, trust and cooperation in the interest of mother Ghana,
The Council called on the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to rise to the occasion once again by ensuring a strict enforcement of the law and dealing with all forms of political violence and criminality impartially so as to nip in the bud all forms of impunity in the name of politics.
As we enter 2020, let us commit ourselves collectively as patriotic citizens to serving mother Ghana in whatever small way we can towards improving the socio-economic well-being of our country, it said.
