Tema, Dec. 20, GNA - Brigadier General Abraham Yeboah Nsiah, Commanding Officer, Southern Command, Ghana Armed Forces, has expressed the military’s readiness to protect the country during and after the festive season.
He said some miscreants and groups often took advantage of the festive season to perpetrate crimes thus putting people at risk.
He, therefore cautioned such persons to be on the lookout as the military, the police and other security agencies would watch and act against any reprehensible acts.
Brigadier General Nsiah was addressing personnel of the GAF at the maiden Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols and singing competition at the Saint Michael Catholic Church, Michel Camp, on Wednesday.
The event organized under the auspices of Brig. Gen. AY Nsiah, was on the theme: “Peace on Earth, Goodwill among Men”, and brought together top officials and officers of the GAF.
He said even though Ghana was surrounded by countries with security instability, the country continued to enjoy peace, adding that his outfit would continue to sustain the peace in the ensuing year.
According to him, series of exercises would be undertaken in the area of character building and rigorous tactical skills to clamp down on officers who go contrary to military rules and regulations.
Brig Nsiah said “we are not going to tolerate unprofessional attitudes from any solider especially those who go to galamsey areas for their selfish interest”, cautioning that, such personnel would be dealt with according to the full extent of the law.
He further warned that those who take bribes from unsuspecting civilians with the intention of helping them with recruitment into the military and those who use their uniform to frighten civilians would be severely dealt with.
He congratulated the personnel for their sense of professionalism exhibited in their line of duty and in executing their lawful mandate.
In a sermon, Reverend Captain Clottey said Christmas was a season of sharing and extending a helping hand to the poor and marginalized in society as a sign of the sacrifices of Jesus for humanity.
Christmas, he added, was a time of forgiveness and reconciliation since without forgiveness, the lives of Christians would be worthless.
“By all means we have offended people, if there are such issues, let’s resolve them before entering the New Year by reflecting on Christ and what he means to us; love, peace, joy, unity must lead us, ” he advised.
