Accra, Dec. 21, GNA - The Centre for National Culture (CNC) has launched the maiden edition of a pre-christmas festival known as 'Arooglass' to promote arts, culture and create a bigger platform to exhibit Ghanaian Arts and Cultures.
The Festival is accompanied with cultural performance, drama, exhibitions of painting, hand craft works, clothing, jewelry and local dishes and pastries.
The festival which was launched on Friday will end on Monday, Dec 23, exhibition would start from 0700 hours till 1700 hours each day.
Mrs Alice Alima Kala, Director, CNC, Accra said the term 'Arooglass' was used back in the days to call the wooded mummy trucks which was used for transportation of foods and people.
She said the name simply symbolised the mindset of going back for the lost cultures of the Ghanaian people.
She said the Ghanaian culture was rich in values, music, art, poetry, amongst others; that if these potentials were harnessed would assist in national economic growth.
She said the Art Festival was born to create a much bigger platform for the Centre to showcase its wealth of talent and products it had and to encourage cultural exchange in the Art community.
She said the Festival was unique because it climaxed the years' activities and brought much variety of gifted person from the art community on board.
Chief Mohammed Sungtaaba, President, Inner City tribal Chiefs said in his remarks that it was important for Ghanaians to appreciate their culture and not allow the influence of foreign cultures to determine their life style.
He expressed his excitement for the Festival and applauded the centre for such an initiative.
He further advised the youth to tread cautiously during the Christmas festivities to avoid any problem.
