Accra, Dec. 22, GNA - President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accompanied by his wife, Rebecca, Friday night threw the switch to light the Jubilee House Christmas Tree, as the Presidency held its festival of Nine lessons and Carols to herald the Yuletide.
At the flick of the switch, the lights of an elaborately decorated Christmas tree at the main ceremonial entrance of the Jubilee House, and adjacent its environs and the main edifice of the Presidency came alive with a dazzling display of lights, drawing cheers from the dignitaries and House's staff who had gathered at the forecourt for the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering after reading the Ninth Lesson of the night, President Akufo-Addo was delighted that for the first time in Ghana's history, the three arms of government each held the festival, and he was honoured to read the Ninth lesson on all occasions.
To him, the development was "a strong testament of the determination of each Arm of Government to be guided in their work, the Christian values of faith, love charity, and reconciliation".
"This commitment is particularly important, especially as we enter a new year, in which the nation is going to conduct a general election so that our people can choose the person and persons they want to manage the affairs of the nation on their behalf", he noted.
The President continued: "We'll be conducting the eight general election of our history in the fourth republic... we have to ensure that it is peaceful and orderly so that our people make their choice in freedom and peace.
"I am optimistic that it would be the case and that the reputation of our nation as a beacon of democracy will be strengthened," he stressed.
President Akufo-Addo wished Ghanaians a best of the season, and reiterated his Government's unparalleled commitment to making the country a prosperous one that would guarantee improvement in the quality of the life for all.
The event was attended by the Vice President and his Wife Samira, the Speaker of Parliament Prof Mike Oquaye and his wife, former first Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, the Chief of Staff Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, members of the Council of State, the Diplomatic Corps, senior government officials among others.
