Accra, Dec. 22, GNA - The Most Reverend Paul K. Boafo, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana has called on Politicians to exhibit political maturity and avoid abusive language on campaign platforms.
He said "Ghana needs men and women of integrity to hold leadership positions."
The Most Rev. Boafo in his Christmas message during the Nine Lessons and Carlos of the Methodist Church said Ghanaians must be compassionate, friendly, loving and keep away from anger and hatred.
He said Ghanaians should not allow the poison of division to endanger the hard earned reputation of the nation and should be tolerant to each other’s views.
The Presiding Bishop urged all to exercise their civic role and responsibility with all sense of decorum and maturity."This will ensure a peaceful and credible elections come December 2020," he added.
He called on politicians to at all times speak the truth and ensure that they avoided false accusations in other to score political points.
Most Rev. Boafo said the youth were the future leaders of the nation and should avoid been lured into causing confusion and chaos at any material time.
"Let us be careful of those, who will deceive us in causing confusion in our nation," he added.
He said "Let peace have a place in all that we do, this year 2020 is another choice to consolidate the peace we have enjoyed in the democratic dispensation over the years."
To the media, he said it was their prayers to avoid the sensationalism that characterised the era in such moments of the elections.
He said the media practitioners should know that they hold the key to peace of the nation and therefore, they must exercise extreme professionalism to avoid sensitionalism and deceitful headlines.
The Presiding Bishop said the media must be mindful of the way they manage information to the public and urged the citizens to look up to the Almighty God in times of joys, sorrow and difficulty.
The Presiding Bishop said "as we celebrate Christmas, we should invite the Lord and embrace the light that comes into the world to take away darkness."
He said everyone must dedicate themselves to do what was within their power to maintain peace and stability.
As part of the celebration, a number of dedicated staff were awarded with Plaques and Cash.
Other awards were given to retirees for their long service to the Methodist Church Ghana, Head office.
