Ho, Dec. 22, GNA - The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Volta Chapter has inducted two persons as honourary members of the Association for their roles in promoting journalism in the region.
They are Professor Ben Quarshie Honyenuga, Vice Chancellor, Ho Technical University (HTU) and Lieutenant Colonel Bernard Baba Pantoah, Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment (Volta Barracks), Ho.
The new members were inducted at a “Night with GJA Honourary Members and Veterans” held at the Volta Press Centre, Ho.
The event brought members together to wine, dine and fraternise to release the stress of 12 months of hustle and bustle in promoting national cohesion and socio-economic development of Volta/Oti Regions.
Lt. Col. Pantoah thanked the Association for the honour and assured of doing his best to strengthen the bond between the Regiment and the media.
Prof. Honyenuga saw his induction as a fulfilment of his dream saying, as a young man he had aspired to be a journalist and pledged his commitment to the growth of GJA in the Region.
Mr A.B. Kafui Kanyi, Chairman, Volta GJA in a speech outlined achievements the Chapter made in the 2019 year, which included the construction of a press centre, acquisition of land for Media Village and a successful organisation of 2019 Volta GJA Awards.
He also spoke on the smooth roll out of a sanitation campaign in the Region by the Association aimed at restoring Ho to its former glory as one of the cleanest city in the country.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, Volta Regional Police Commander assured the public of the Command’s readiness to fight crime during the festive season and advised the citizenry to also play a role, stressing, security is a shared responsibility.
Mr Billy Anaglate, Deputy Regional Fire Commander provided some tips on how to avert domestic fires during this Christmas and said, “90 per cent of fire cases are preventable.”
The event under the chairmanship of Reverend Father Emmanuel Fianu, Catholic Bishop of Ho saw other honourary members- Mama Attrato II, Queen mother of Ho Dome and Mr Dela Gadzanku, Volta/Eastern Chairman of AGI, veteran journalists, executives of political parties and heads of departments in attendance.
