Accra, Dec. 23, GNA – Ittai Binnun, a renowned Israeli multi-instrumentalist, delivered a remarkable performance at the 1st Hanukkah Lighting celebrations held in Accra.
Hanukkah, the Hebrew word for "dedication" is the "Festival of Lights" which commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrian Greek Army and the miracle of rededicating the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
The "Festival of Lights" also marks parts of activities to strengthen relations with Ghana and the Embassy of Israel.
Speaking at the event, Her Excellency Shani Cooper-Zubida, Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone said the significance of the Hanukkah is to expose and bring Israeli culture closer to the people of Ghana.
"Today we are happy to mark our religious independence together with friends from all around the world
"I am especially delighted to light these candles here in Accra, because they represent liberation and a triumph of the spirit, which symbolises Ghana and its fight for independence as well.
Madam Cooper-Zubida also dedicated the first lighting of the Hanukkah to both Jews and Ghanaians who fought courageously to reach independence.
Madam Shirley Ayokor Botchway, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, who was the special guest for the celebrations, did the honours of lighting the first candle with other state dignitaries also gracing the event.
