Takoradi, Dec. 23, GNA - The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has assured investors that Government is committed to protecting their interests to help create more job opportunities and peaceful labour relations.
He said the Ministry would not relent on its mandate in coordinating employment opportunities and labour-related interventions in all sectors, promote decent jobs and ensure harmonious labour relations in the country.
Mr Awuah gave the assurance when he visited Golden Exotics Limited, a leading producer of bananas and pineapples in Ghana, to gather first-hand information on violent demonstration staged by workers over disagreement on production bonus.
He said he had taken up the responsibility of personally resolving the impasse to the satisfaction of both parties and assured all of a peaceful resolution.
He announced that a meeting had been scheduled with leadership of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union - Ghana, the local leadership of Golden Exotics staff and Management, for an amicable settlement.
The Minister entreated all parties to remain calm until the issue was resolved.
The company is both Global and Fair Trade certified and runs two plantations, which together covered 8,600 hectors.
One plantation is devoted to pineapple production and could have a harvest of about 10,000 tonnes per year, while the other is for banana production.
It has over 10 years’ track record of staying in business.
