Tamale, Dec 24, GNA - Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yusif Mohammed Tanko, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Northern Regional Police Command, has said the Ghana Police Service is committed to protect the citizenry from any criminal attack.
The Police PRO further gave the assurance that his outfit had put in place contingencies to ensure the safety of every citizen during the Christmas festivities.
He said the police would deploy more men to beef up security at various checkpoints and patrol teams, to ensure that those travelling in and out of the region were safe from any criminal attacks.
DSP Tanko said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), when the GNA visited to ascertain police preparedness towards the yuletide.
He noted that personnel were briefed on measures required, what to anticipate and how to deal with certain crimes that might be committed by some bad people in society.
DSP Tanko further indicated that as part of Police preparations towards the festive season, they embarked on a campaign to educate members of the public on the need to be vigilant to avoid criminals and their activities throughout the festive season.
“This was done to let the people understand the need to stay vigilant to minimise the effect on them by way of giving security tips”, he said.
“Though we are on the road trying to prevent armed robbers from attacking people, it is also important that the individuals take their personal security seriously to avoid loss of property and lives”, he added.
DSP Tanko appealed to the citizenry to assist the police in carrying out their duties, saying, they should report any crime they come across and give tip offs to arrest criminals in their hideouts.
