Tarkwa (W/R),Dec 24, GNA - A 50-year-old man, Adi A. Didie has sustained various degrees of injuries when his Raleigh bicycle crashed into the rear of an articulator truck with registration number GT 2144-13.
The accident occurred on Sunday at 0800 hours around the Sac junction on the Tarkwa-Takoradi Highway in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Chief Inspector George Kwabena Osei, from the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) in Tarkwa said the victim lost control while descending the post office hill and rammed into the truck with one of the tyres running over his arm.
According to Inspector Osei, the suspected driver, Ibrahim Mohammed who was then heading towards Bogoso from Takoradi to load dry cocoa beans did not notice that someone was trapped under his truck, but upon persistent screaming of on lookers, he stopped and saved him from death.
He said Didie was quickly rushed to the Apinto government hospital for treatment, but was later referred to the Effia Nkwanta Regional hospital.
He said the suspected driver was in police custody, while the bicycle and truck were impounded for vehicular examination.
Inspector Osei appealed to riders to observe the road traffic regulations and also put on helmets at all times to help save lives.
