Accra, Dec. 24, GNA – In the Spirit of the Giving Season, Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso I, the President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), has provided for more than 500 widows and the aged in Accra.
He treated them to a party and shared gifts and money to them - a gesture intended to gladden their hearts and put smiles on their faces so that they would enjoy the love of Christ during the Christmas festivity.
The beneficiaries were identified as being financially unstable or could face some level of neglect during such festive season.
The widows and the aged were given some African prints, hampers, electronic gadgets, among others.
Nana Dankawoso, who has repeated this gesture for the past 13 years, said he was just heeding the call of God to enhance the welfare of widows, orphans and prisoners.
Christmas, he said, was a call on all, especially the Business Community, to show love to the less privileged and the marginalised in the society.
“Whether we have returns on our investments or not, we must make provisions for corporate social responsibilities,” he emphasised.
The support would be extended to people in the other regions before the year ended, he stated.
“I will, therefore, urge all and sundry not to wait to get much wealth before doing good to the needy. Even if it is a handkerchief that you can afford, buy one for someone in need.”
Nana Dankawoso advised the widows to work hard and invest in something profitable so that they could keep earning a living when they grew older.
Professor Tal Edgars, a UN Security Council Special Envoy, and a friend of Nana Dankawoso, quoted “1 Timothy 5:3”: “Give proper recognition to widows”, saying, the annual gesture from Nana was, therefore, was a step in the right direction.
Christmas, to him, was not just about celebrating, but supporting the needy.
He, therefore, pledged to support the GNCCI President in his other benevolent activities.
“It’s not about how much we are giving but how much we are impacting the lives of those groups of people or society and how sustainable it is in the long term,” he said.
The Very Reverend Peter Ansah, the Minister in Charge of the Mount Olivet Methodist Church, Dansoman, expressed gratitude to Nana Dankawoso for making the widows in his Church beneficiaries to his support.
He said Nana would account for his stewardship to God, just as everyone else, and he believed Nana would greatly be rewarded.
God, he said, had a special interest in the lives of widows and orphans, and, therefore, had special rewards for those who made them smile.
He joined hands with the widows to pray for more wealth, peace, joy and longevity for Nana Dankawoso and his family.
Mr Emmanuel Calvin Cann, the Society Steward of the Mount Olivet Church, also commended Nana Dankawoso for his consistency in supporting such vulnerable people.
“As the Lord blesses him and prolongs his years on earth, let’s all reflect on our lives to identify the loopholes and improve upon them as we live our lives as Christians,” he advised.
Madam Agnes Baah, a widow and a beneficiary, expressed their gratitude to Nana Dankawoso and prayed for his health and prosperity.
