Damongo, Dec. 24, GNA - The Savannah Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has inaugurated an Inter-party Dialogue Committee aimed at deepening friendly political party discourse in the area.
The Inter-party Dialogue Committee, which is funded by the United Nations Development Programme, seeks to among others encourage issues-based political campaigns in the region towards ensuring violent free elections next year.
It is also to identify and quell any election related violence and intensify education on election related issues.
It is chaired by Reverend Father Charles Dibin with members drawn from various stakeholder institutions including; the NCCE, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ), the Electoral Commission (EC), security agencies and the media.
Mr Samuel Yeyu Tika, Deputy Savannah Regional Minister, who inaugurated the Committee at Damongo, urged members to be committed to sustain the country's democracy.
He further urged them to constantly interact to deepen discussions towards violent free elections next year.
He said All political parties have responsibilities to ensure they avoided use of provocative language, because "We have accepted democracy as a country so we must do everything right to protect it".
Madam Issaka Zitor, Savannah Regional Director of NCCE said the Committee would monitor enforcement of political parties’ code of conduct, promote peaceful security conditions, preach tolerance and identify issues likely to trigger electoral conflicts in the region.
Madam Zitor said “What we do as one people during elections, no one can do for us and, therefore, we must rise up responsibly and adhere to a conduct that assures us of free, fair, non-violent and peaceful elections".
