Tamale, Dec. 24, GNA - Patrons shopping for the Christmas festivities have expressed reservations about high cost of goods ahead of the Christmas celebration in the Tamale Metropolis.
The usual business characterising Christmas seem to be dull in a Muslim dominated community such as Tamale.
While patrons complained about soaring prices of goods, traders ironically were complaining about poor sales resulting from low patronage.
Some customers the Ghana News Agency spoke to said prices of rice, soft drinks, chicken, mutton, and beef have increased suddenly.
Other products that were affected by price increases, the patrons indicated were vegetables, including; carrots letus, cabbage and related products.
Madam Fatima iddrisu, a trader at the Tamale Central Market told the GNA that shopping was slow and attributed to increase in prices of items.
She noted that customers complained about prices of goods going up and said it affected sales.
Mr Yaw Osei, a business man in the Tamale Central Market urged manufacturers to reduce the prices of goods in order to enhance customers’ capacity to buy.
Madam Jamilatu Seidu, a trader at the Kukuo Market (suburb of Tamale), noted that patronage of local rice was slow in the market and called on Ghanaians to use local rice to celebrate the Christmas to enhance the country’s economy.
