Tamale (N/R), Dec. 24, GNA - The Central and Aboabo markets in the Tamale Metropolis have experienced unusual traffic as people shop for Christmas.
Goods and foodstuffs including toys and Christmas gift hampers are on display which gave the markets festive looks.
In spite of the long queues observed at the markets and shops, some traders said sales were not good as compared to previous years.
A provision shop attendant at the Aboabo market, who gave her name as Mary Kwao, said even though there were many people in the market, sales was not encouraging, and expressed the hope of making enough money by the close of the day.
Alhassan Yussif, a shoe and clothe dealer at the Tamale Central market, said majority of the buyers were in the market for foodstuffs and not wears, because they already had their shoes and clothes bought from online shops ahead of the festive season.
Some buyers the GNA spoke to said they resorted to shopping Monday, because people usually preferred to shop on the eve of Christmas which made movement difficult.
Madam Yvonne Adu- Koranteng, one of the buyers, said she wanted to avoid shopping amidst crowd, hence the decision to shop on Monday.
Prices of food items have not been too stable as result of the season's sales. Fashion wears such as hair and dresses were being sold at reduced prices.
