Tema, Dec. 29, GNA - Residents of Sakasaka a suburb of Tema Community Six on boxing day received free health screening from the congregants of the Grace Presbyterian Church at Tema Community 11.
A team of doctors, nurses and laboratory technicians screened the residents for blood pressure, diabetes, hepatitis B, malaria among other sicknesses.
Medications including dewormers were also provided for them.
Over 500 residents were also fed while some of them had free hair cut as well.
Reverend Lawrence Kwesi Tete, Minister-in-charge of the church, said the gesture was part of their Christian responsibility to society.
Reverend Tete explained that the mission had offered such services and food to several communities over the past five years adding that Anointed Melodious Singers, a group in the church, championed it.
He recounted that the mission's programme had benefited the Akuse prisons and residents of Osu Doku wem and now was the turn of Sakasaka.
He added that Christmas was not just about preaching to the people about the birth of Jesus Christ but also time to give back to society saying "We are here basically to get the people screened medically, have their hair barbered, dine with them and also to give them clothings".
He urged Ghanaians to propagate peace especially in 2020 as the country prepares for general elections.
He called upon the youth to eschew acts of violence during the electioneering period and cautioned them against joining groupings that would perpetrate acts of violence.
He added that the Electoral Commission must sit up and put measures in place that would ensure a smooth election devoid of chaos.
