Following his influential role in catapulting Ahmad Ahmad to be elected as the President of CAF, Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi is highly tipped to be named the next Vice President of the Africa football governing body, according to reports.
The CAF ExCo member who also got re-elected as a FIFA Council member is believed to have championed the campaign of the Madagascan FA Boss to defeat the outgoing Issah Hayatou.
Ahmad Ahmad emerged victorious in CAF’s general elections which was held in Addis Ababa on Thursday mauling the Cameroonian by 14 votes.
Nyantakyi, a legal practitioner, has been serving as a CAF executive committee member for almost a decade and insiders say the relatively quiet man is now a powerful asset on the continent.
CAF insiders have hinted that Nyantakyi who was believed to be in Issah Hayatou’s camp until a few months before the election was promised the Vice Presidential seat by the Madagascan if he wins the ultimate.
He was voted on the FIFA Council for an interim time before securing a maximum 33 votes as against Leodegar Tenga' 20 at CAF’s general elections held in Addis Ababa yesterday to retain his seat.
