Ghana international Jordan Ayew is of no doubt that he will make up for his inconsistent performance during the 2014 World Cup when the Black Stars get the chance again.
Ayew, was in the Ghana team that crashed out of the group stages of the world Cup, with player revolt marring what promised to be a good campaign in Brazil.
With the Black Stars leading Germany, Ayew had an opportunity to put the game to bed but the youngest of Abedi’s son’s shot straight into the waiting arms of Manuel Neuer.
He admits he was not up to task and is hoping to make amends in the future.
“I started the first game (against the USA). I wasn’t even supposed to be in the starting XI but we played against South Korea in a friendly before the tournament and I did well,” Ayew recalls.
He came off the bench that day after an early injury and scored a hat-trick, with his first goal coming thanks to a deflection off a certain Ki Sung-Yueng.
“I got into the team after that game, but I couldn’t keep my performance
at the same level and I missed my chance,” Ayew adds.
He came on as a substitute in a 2-2 draw with Germany, then again in a defeat to Portugal which saw Ghana eliminated.
All being well, there will be another crack at the World Cup in the future for a man who feels he is a better player now than he was three years ago.
“My problem when I was younger was that I was not consistent,” Ayew says.
“But I am better now because I am more mature. I understand things better.” .
