After the conclusion of weekend games across the globe, Ghana’s leading football website, GHANASoccernet.com bring to you our best 11 Ghanaian players in the various leagues.
There were some superb displays in the Premier League this weekend as 12 goals were scored by ten Ghanaian players across the globe.
Arguably, the performance of the weekend came from Turkey, where goals Mahatma Otoo's brace condemned Boluspor to their second defeat at home.
Formation: 4-4-1-1
Adam Kwarasey (Valenranga- Norway)
The 29-year-old shot-stopper made a superb save to deny Viking an equalizer, and even made a better one when he thwarted Andreas Nordvik's close range shot. The Ghana international was superb last week against Aalesund and seemed to enjoy repeating the performance against Viking, showing superb reflexes to parry Julian Ryerson's shot over the bar to preserve Valeranga’s lead.
Kennedy Boateng (Reid-Austria)
For the second successive weeks, I’ve picked this young centre-back. The former WAFA product was magnificent for Ried but it was unfortunate he had to exit the game after the 51st minute through injury. He made a couple of challenges and was a physical presence to thwart the forays of an adventurous Wacker Innsbruck before his departure.
Rashid Obuobi ( Ventspils-Latvia)
The budding left back is gradually making a name for himself in the Latvian top flight league with his excellent performances. In the side’s 1-1 stalemate with FK Leipaja, Obuobi became a channel of hope for his teammates as every ball he touched wreaked havoc in the opponent’s goal area. From the former Donji Srem defender’s darting run won Ventspils the penalty, which they scored to rescue a point from the jaws of defeat.
Joseph Aidoo (KRC Genk-Belgium)
It pays to wait as they say and this lad has waited for the right moment to endear himself to Genk faithful. Following his switch over the summer from Hammarby, Aidoo had to bid his time on the substitute bench but since he stepped on the field for the team’s 1-0 win against KV Mechelen as a late substitute, he hasn’t looked back. He was impregnable at the back for the side as they shook defending league champions Anderlecht at their fortress, and capped his phenomenal day the lone strike that won his side the game.
Jonathan Mensah ( Columbus Crew-USA)
The 27-year-old was thoroughly efficient with his interceptions and tackles and his consummate input ensured Columbus Crew left New York with a point. His reading of the game was top notch and also the manner in which he commanded the back was excellent.
Alfred Duncan (Sassuolo-Italy)
It wasn't the best game I have seen Duncan play this season, especially when in possession but it was still good enough to destroy SPAL and get him into my team of the week. The score line and SPAL's form might be a little bit flattery but they really gave Sassuolo a good run for their money as they attacked with their all. However, any time they were on the move, Duncan was there to put breaks on them and he did so expertly without attracting a caution until he suffered a knock in the latter parts of the first half. It’s not by sheer luck that top teams in the division were after his signature. He has earned it.
Albert Adomah (Aston Villa-England)
The winger continues to bolster his burgeoning reputation for the Villans with a fine display to put Steve Bruce’s side into a contention for promotion. The 29-year-old rounded off a wonderful outing with a goal.
Eric Ocansey (KAS Eupen-Belgium)
No Ghanaian midfielder has scored more goals than Ocansey since January. And he’s continued his rich vein of form this season as he netted a brilliant brace against KV Mechelen to take his season tally to four. His eye for goal from midfielder makes him one of the across Europe.
Frank Acheampong (Tianjin Teda- China)
The on-loan Anderlecht winger has found his feet firmly on the ground in China as he helped the Tianjin Teda retained their position in the league for next season following a 2-0 win over Beijing Guoan. Acheampong took the game the visitors with real power and pace and was heavily involved in their second goal after taking the ball from his half, beating two player before laying on pass to Liyu Yang, who quickly released it to Mbaye Diagne to fire home.
Seth Paintsil (Jaro FF- Finland)
Paintsil hit his 10th goal of the season for Jaro over the weekend in their 1-1 draw with IF Gnistan. Despite being passed fit at the last hour before the game, Paintsil showed no sign of a player who has been out injured all week. His movement off the ball and shooting power makes him want more anytime he receives the ball on the edge of the area. He ensured that he left the ground with a goal from his all-round action display.
Mahatma Otoo (Balikesirspor-Turkey)
Against Gaziantepsor last week he was the consummate team player. It would have been easy for Otoo to fall for the flattery from his coach’s praises after hitting the back of the net or try to prove something special in front of their boisterous fans, but he did not. He put his team first and it was business as usual. He continued in the same vein against Boluspor, only this time he got the rewards his endeavour deserved with two beautifully taken goals in a 4-2 win.
