Former England striker Don Goodman has told Sky Sports that he was shocked that Middlesbrough allowed Aston Villa to sign Albert Adomah from them in 2016, and that he is proving why that was a mistake this season.
The 29-year-old left Boro for Villa on the deadline day of the summer window of 2016, and his form arguably suggested to his old side that keeping him around may have been beneficial as they struggled for goals, as he scored three and contributed 10 assists in the second tier.
But it is arguably this season that his form has reached another level, with five goals coming in just nine appearances, including six starts for Steve Bruce's men, making him the joint top goalscorer in the Villans side currently despite his role as a winger.
And Goodman has admitted that he was stunned with Boro's decision to let him leave the Riverside Stadium just over one year ago.
Though Adomah has not been able to send a statement directly to his old side - with Villa failing to score in either of their two meetings with Garry Monk's men this season - the early stages of the campaign suggest that he may be set to potentially be able to have the last laugh this term.
Villa are now fifth in the table, while Boro are currently languishing in mid-table, and Monk's men have not won any of their games since they beat Bruce's side in the League Cup more than a month ago.
