Former Ghana goalkeeper Abuakari Damba has earmarked Raphael Dwamena as the successor to Asamoah Gyan in the Black Stars set-up.
The 31-year-old, who is Ghana's all time leading scorer has been hit with recurring injuries recently, which has prompted calls for his retirement from the national team.
According to Damba, it will be imperative for the Kayserispor forward to be in the team to guide the young players to find their feet before calling his time on his international career at his own will.
And the former shot-stopper asserted that he sees traits of the former Sunderland hitman in FC Zurich striker Raphael Dwamena.
“You can’t have a cut and paste of Asamoah Gyan, he’s a player with his own class and style and he has certainly paid his dues in the senior national team and you just cant find words to describe him," Damba said on GHONE TV.
“But I tip Rapheal Dwamena to take over from Gyan and I believe if he is given more time playing time we would find glimpses of Gyan in him and overly impressed with him so far especially his position around the goal area."
“Nonetheless Gyan is still a key player in the team and is good to have him around despite his injury concerns so that he can help the up and coming ones.”
