Ghana defender John Boye was a stalwart for FC Metz as they began their French Ligue campaign with a 1-0 win over Stade Brestois on Monday.
After more than a month of summer preparation, FC Metz started its championship on Monday with an away clash against former Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois.
Frédéric Antonetti picked the maximum points from the match courtesy Ibrahima Niané's 13th minute strike.
Brestois pushed for the leveller in the final embers of the match but Boye proved to be the stumbling block to their quest to earn at least a point from the match.
Boye joined the Mroons as a free agent from Turkish side Sivasspor this summer.
He is expected to keep his place in the team when they play Stade Saint-Symphorien in the second match of the campaign.
