Former Black Stars captain, Charles Kwabla Akunor has defended coach Kwesi Appiah despite the shocking defeat to Kenya in the AFCON qualifier on Saturday.
The Black Stars of Ghana lost to Kenya by a solitary goal in Nairobi in the second round of games.
The defeat has led to a massive outrage in the Ghanaian public with many calling for the head of the Kwesi Appiah.
However, former Ghana striker CK Akonnor is refusing to blame the coach for the defeat and has asked Ghanaians to remain patient as the gaffer builds a solid team for the future.
“It’s not always about results but the development of the team also matters” he told Asempa FM.
“Let’s think about the way forward I believe we can qualify for the 2019 AFCON because we have the players . We have a very strong technical team. Let’s stop speculating. Coach Kwasi Appiah may be quiet but he knows what he is doing” Akonnor added.
Meanwhile, the former Ashantigold manager says the debate over the captaincy should be avoided to foster unity in camp.
“We are all getting tired of Black Stars captaincy issues. it’ not necessary. Gyan is the captain, Dede Ayew is the assistant period. I believe Gyan and the Ayews will be part of team someday” he said.
