Former Ghana international Augustine Ahinful has bemoaned comments made by Black Stars deputy coach, Ibrahim Tanko in the aftermath of Ghana's defeat against Kenya on Saturday.
Following the Black Stars 1-0 loss against the Harambee Stars of Kenya at the MISC Stadium last Saturday, deputy coach of the team Ibrahim Tanko lamented the attitude of some players and warned them to lift their performance or face the axe.
The team came under heavy opprobrium, particularly for their poor showing in the first half and their profligacy in front of goal.
But according to Ahinful, it’s the responsibility of the technical team to substitute players whom they believe were not giving off their best in the game rather than harshly criticizing them after the three points had already been lost.
"If indeed Ibrahim Tanko really said the players weren't committed, then he should come again. He didn't speak well. They are the coaches and they were supposed to take off the uncommitted players off the pitch," the former AshantiGold SC marksman told Happy FM.
The Black Stars are still on top of the group with a better goal advantage despite their loss to Kenya.
They will play two quick AFCON qualifying games against Sierra Leone next in October.
