Football fraternity must see 'Nana Pooley' murder as crime â?? IGP Akuffo Dampare
The Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, has called on the footballfraternity to view the murder of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Frimpong also known as 'Nana Pooley', as a crime.Nana Pooley was stabbed by unknown assailants during the Matchday 19 game between Nsoatreman FC and Kotoko at the Nana Kronmansah Park on Sunday.Prior to the murder of Pooley, the game was marred with clashes between the players and officials on the pitch. However, the Ghana Police Service has since arrested five persons, including Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the owner of Nsoatreman FC.Addressing the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA)on Wednesday at the Police Headquarters, Mr Dampare called for unity among the football fraternity in fighting hooliganism. We urge the football fraternity to support us [Ghana Police], in this endeavour to bring the culprits to book. The football family must see this as a crime being investigated, and nothing else. This will help all those involved to have closure. We must use this tragic event to learn the relevant lessons and come out with a blueprint to ensure football continues to be a game people enjoy, and not one where people lose their lives, he said. The Ghana Football Association will hold an emergency meeting with all Premier League clubs today to discuss how violence will be halted at the venues.
