Laryea Kingston’s remarkable start to his coaching career in Uganda has reached another major milestone after guiding the Uganda U17 national team to qualification for the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The young Cranes sealed their spot in next year’s tournament with an impressive 3â0 victory over Ethiopia in the semi-finals of the CECAFA U17 Qualifiers.
Uganda delivered a dominant performance from start to finish, showcasing the same tactical discipline, attacking flair and cohesion that have defined Kingston’s tenure so far. The three-goal win was more than enough to book their ticket to Morocco, where the 2026 U17 AFCON will be staged.
Since his appointment as head of Uganda’s Men’s Youth Teams, Kingston has transformed the U17 side into one of the most exciting teams in the region.
Under his guidance, the team has recorded emphatic victoriesâincluding a 4â0 win over Burundi and a 9â0 demolition of Sudan before overpowering Ethiopia to seal qualification. The team lost their final group game by 2-1 to Tanzania but their identity was intact.
Under Laryea’s supervision, the team recorded 17 goals in 4 games, conceding just 2.
The latest triumph further highlights Kingston’s growing influence and the rapid progress Uganda’s youth setup is experiencing under his leadership.
His tactical identity, emphasis on high-intensity football, and commitment to developing young talent have sparked renewed optimism within the Ugandan football community.
With qualification secured, attention now shifts to preparing for the main tournament in Morocco next year.
Expectations continue to rise, but for now, Laryea Kingston can celebrate a brilliant achievementâguiding Uganda’s U17s to the continent’s biggest youth stage in stylish fashion.
