The first group of participants in the CAF African Schools Football Championship Young Reporter Programme have arrived at the CANAL+ headquarters in Paris to begin a five-day internship designed to elevate the next generation of African sports media professionals.
The delegation includes four Ghanaian journalists, Ruth Naa Amanoa Asamoah (25), Belinda Nketia (24), Andrews Sefa Bamfo (23) and Emmanuel Andam (25), who were selected following a rigorous practical assessment conducted by CAF, CANAL+ and experienced sports journalists during the Continental Finals of the CAF African Schools Football Championship in April.
The group arrived in France on Monday, 8 December, and will conclude their programme on 12 December. Throughout the week, they will receive mentorship and hands-on training through full editorial immersion within CANAL+ sports production teams.
This initiative brings to life the Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year between CAF and CANAL+, aimed at youth empowerment and development in football and media across the continent.
As part of the programme, the young reporters will take part in live sports broadcasts, content development and newsroom operations, gaining first-hand experience in international sports journalism.
CAF Director of Member Associations, Sarah Mukuna, noted that the initiative reflects CAF’s commitment to preparing young Africans for influential roles within football media and leadership. Grace Loubassou, Director of Institutional Relations- Africa at CANAL+, highlighted the company’s ongoing investment in African sports coverage and talent development.
Sport forms a major pillar of the CANAL+ Group identity, with the network expanding further across Africa, including in English-speaking territories. Operating in more than 47 countries, the broadcaster continues to strengthen its role as a long-term partner in the growth of sports and audiovisual industries on the continent.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship Young Reporter Programme, together with other youth-focused projects, aligns with CAF’s strategy to provide meaningful career opportunities for young Africans through football and education.
